  • A bit of classic ‘Gracie Drama’ to finish your week 🎭

Things That Keep You Up At 2 AM:

If you grew up with a brother, you’ll probably remember getting in a few fights and putting on (or maybe getting put in) a few headlocks 🤕

And while it might have been so intense at times it felt like a world championship match - it definitely wasn’t. You were most likely just trying to get the remote and change the channel 📺

Well, the Ruotolo brothers have gone way beyond wrestling for the remote and have recently mentioned that they are potentially on track to fight each other for a ONE Championship World Title 🤯 (read more further down 📖👇)

Kade & Tye seem to spend most of their time scrapping with each other anyway and have both proven they are world-class… so who gets the win!?

You tell me…👇

This week’s big question: ⬇️

If Kade & Tye Fight For A ONE Championship Submission Grappling World Title - Who Wins!?

Last time we asked you - “Are You A CarJitsu Fan?”

🟨🟨🟨⬜️⬜️⬜️ 💪 Yep. If it works in the streets, it works in the seats.

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 🙅‍♂️ Nope. I got no time for it.

🟨🟨🟨⬜️⬜️⬜️ 😑 I have zero feelings about CarJitsu.

Some of you love it, some of you couldn’t care less about it, but most of you think it’s trash 🗑

With all that said, one of our avid readers points out that while it might be pretty dodgy for the most part, it might serve you well if you’re all out of change and the taxi driver starts getting a bit heavy 🚖💥

Do Less. No, Wait, Do More:

The Good Option: Put your foot in it 🦶

There’s nothing like being stuck in a T-Kimura to make you realise you really don’t want to be stuck in a T-Kimura 😡

It can be a super tough position to get out of - and most directions you try to go just land you in some other horrible trap and ultimately, a tap.

For this one - we are going back to the one and only Jeff Glover who shows a quick way to get your legs involved to try and help break some grips 🦵

I’m not the most flexible guy on the mats, so I’m keen to give it a try to see if I can get the leg through and make it work.

Give it a crack yourself and let us know if you get a win! 👇

The Not-So-Good Option: Winning by dry-humping

It’s arguably not in the spirit of Jiu-Jitsu competition to just go up by 2 points and then stall your opponent out 👎

Sure, you may get the win but it’s kinda boring for all involved 🥱

So in following that logic - it’s just as poor form to go up by 2 points and then dry hump your opponent as he hugs you until he lets go 😬

Or maybe it’s up to the guy with 0 points to stop hugging and start wrestling? 🤨

I dunno, but either way, it’s a cringey watch👇

The Gentle Art Of The Family Feud 😬

The Gracie name is as famous as any last name gets in the world of Jiu-Jitsu ⭐️

Decades on from the peak of their fame and influence, most gyms around the world still have the imposing Eye Of Sauron Helio 👀 watching over their mats in a dusty A4 frame with his arms folded and emotions suppressed 😑

Helio, Carlos and the small army of offspring that have since followed now ensure that the Gracie family name will forever be synonymous and intrinsically tied to 3 things:

  • BJJ

  • The UFC

  • Endless family drama 🎭

Let’s face it - from business disputes and family infighting to nightclub brawls and jail time - the Gracies are basically the original version of ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ but with more Botox and less choking (…or is that the other way around? 🧐)

The most recent story doing the rounds in the Gracie Circus 🎪 concerns none other than Royce, Rickon and Rorion and has come to light from an interview with Art Davie as he promotes his book - ‘Is It Legal’.

Art Davie is the creator and co-producer of the early UFC 👊 and in the short podcast clip above, goes into some of the details and interactions that led to little ol’ Royce ending up as the Gracie family representative in favour of the formidable, larger and more talented Rickson 😎

I’ll let you hit play above ☝️ and hear from Art himself - but in classic Gracie ‘reality TV’ fashion, it’s a tale of stealing students, unpaid massage debts & million-dollar demands 🤦‍♂️

Speaking of Family Infighting… 😎

It’s not just the Gracies that made Jiu-Jitsu a Family Affair 🎶 - we’ve seen many other siblings leave their mark on BJJ over the years including the Machado, Mendes & Miyao brothers to name a few 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Whether it’s incredible genetics or steroids the endless competitive nature of a classic sibling rivalry, it seems constantly getting pink-bellies and wet-willies does wonders for your world championship prospects 🥇👍

Now, most of the members of the families mentioned above have had their time in the sun ☀️ and are currently sailing off into the master’s divisions to make way for the new crop of brotherly phenoms - such as the Ruotolo Brothers 🔥

Tye & Kade have been stacking trophies 🏆 in the family cabinet since they could walk and at the ripe old age of 20, are now considered some of the best grapplers on the planet 🌍 🤯

After Tye’s most recent win over Magomed Abdulkadirov at ONE Fight Night 16, both Ruotolos now hold a ONE World Championship belt each, which naturally puts them on track for a good ol’ fashioned brotherly scrap 💥

Tye has stated he is as keen as a bean for it (*probably not a direct quote) and thinks Kade is ‘the toughest guy in the world’ as they know each other’s game inside out.

You’ve already told us who you think would win in the poll above right!? ☝️😉 - but if you’re not quite sure and want to see them in action a bit first - this clip is their super-competitive Brown Belt Finals match at the 2021 World Championships.

No cheap club close-out match here 👇😎

Who’s On Top This Week:

The ADCC Open Rankings saw a bit of movement and many new entrants in most divisions recently after some strong showings and great submission runs from many athletes previously ranked outside the Top 10 🤕

We’ve picked the 65’ers to have a look at today with Anthony Molina Valdes of 10th Planet Miami cruising into 5th place after taking home the gold 🥇

Dylan Cameron came in with the ‘Craig Jones Special🥈 which puts him squarely in 8th position after being previously unranked. These 2 new entries knock Tristan Sainz & Logan Marshall out of the Top 10.

In the Women’s 65 KG division, Maggie Grindatti soars into 5th position after snagging gold at the Orlando Open - bumping Stephanie Cline out of the Top 10 for now…
