The Questions That Keep You Up At 2 AM:

One of the hallmarks of jiu-jitsu is that it brings people together from all different walks of life ✌️

Such diversity in practitioners means that you’ll often see a widely different approach to not only BJJ game styles and interests - but also many different takes on health, exercise, nutrition and lifestyle

Some of us are what I’d call full-time optimisers - trying to make sure they are running at 100% all day every day 💯

This looks like taking supplements like party pills, sleeping like it’s a competition, only ever exclusively bathing in ice and blasting our genitals with a red light at any given opportunity 😎🚨 (#dontjudge)

Others, take the more cowboy approach - which looks more like taking supplements like party pills, sleeping when the laptop dies, only ever seeing ice when it’s in whiskey and having no idea why anyone is sticking a red light down their pants?? 😕

Unlock Your Bad Ankles

If tight or injured ankles are holding you back then this is going to help put the spring back in your step! 🔥 

Bad ankles = Crappy Squats.

This can put your knees and lower back in serious danger if we don't look after the root cause - Broken Wheels! 🛞

The problem is your ankles and feet are your tyres and suspension system all rolled up in one. Now you would drive around with a flat tyre and busted suspension - would you? 🤷‍♂️

In this video, JT explains the exact process you need to follow to help you free up your feet, achilles and calves so you can wrestle like a champion and Squat like a boss. 💪 

You will need 3 pieces of equipment which all grapplers should have in their body maintenance kit. 🧰 

  1. A La Crosse Ball (Massage ball will do)

  2. A Spikey Roller (Blue Foam rollers are ok but not ideal)

  3. A Medium Resistance Band + Bench

The important takeaway here is that by prepping the sole of your foot and calves with self-massage you will get much more of an effective stretch because of the increased blood flow 🩸 

That means you will be able to get a greater stretch in less time with the right preparation. Do this before a Squat workout to improve your depth or Before BJJ so you can better balance and hit that Blast Double!

When holding your stretches we recommend 3 sets x 60 seconds on each side.

This was a cracking ADCC Trials! Big names like Pedro Marinho & Ana Rodrigues both snagged their tickets (and a broken nose in Ana’s case) - but the star of this show was Fabricio ‘The Hokage’ Andrey who tore through his division with 5 submissions and an armbar for the highlight reel of all highlight reels 🤯 Click play ⬆️ to check it out 🔥

Grapplefest 18

Straight outta Liverpool, Grapplefest 18 saw Keith Krikorian keep his belt against Dominic Mejia as well as Australia’s own Adele Fornarino getting the win over Fiona Mortell to keep her belt too. 🏆

New Wave’s Luke Griffith and Helena Crevar also both scored convincing Heel Hook wins 🦶 

UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6

As we spoke about earlier, B-Team tore this one up with wins to Craig, Nicky Rod and Jay Rod putting the boys into full party mode 🎉 

Nicholas Meregali cruised to an easy win over Matteus Diniz with a bunch of other great matches and highlights also playing out on this card 💪

2.) Sweet! So, What’s Next? 👀

There’s no shortage of great events on the horizon - but here’s our pick of the best of ‘em:

  1. One Fight Night 21 - Tye Ruotolo vs. Izaak Michell 💥 … I can’t think of a more exciting matchup? 🤷‍♂️ Here’s a quick reminder of Tye’s dynamic style if you need it ⬆️

  2. Sapateiro World Championship - with $100k USD 💵 on the line and an ADCC-style ruleset - this will be epic! It’s set for December this year with 12 qualifying tournaments across America and Canada scheduled throughout the year to find the best of the best for the finale. The first spot has already been booked🔥 

  3. Polaris 27 Welterweight Grand Prix - Less than a week away, this is another insane card in the making. 🤯 Names include Ffion Davies, Brianna Ste-Marie, Keith Krikorian, Owen Jones, PJ Barch, Levi Jones-Leary, Max Hanson and Jozef Chen.

The Good Option: B-Team At Their Best 💪 

With last week’s vote showing a whole lotta love for B-Team from the Tap, Nap & Snap crowd - it only seems fitting that this week we look at their storming run ⛈ at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6 and some of the winning moves they hit along the way 😎 

There’s no specific technique to study in detail this week - it’s more of a broad look at the B-Team game and how they approach their matches.

Craig didn’t give us too much to study as he had it all wrapped up in about a minute 😬 but he found a great leg entry as per usual that is definitely worth a view.

For this one - keep an eye 👁 on both of the Rod Bros matches though - they showcase their formidable passing style and relentless pressure against some super tough opponents.
