🥋 Jiu-Jitsu's biggest moment ever is here

Rightio - here’s what we’ve got today:

  • Drop everything and forget everyone - CJI / ADCC is here! 🔥

Who’s Spanking The Rankings?: The ADCC / CJI Countdown 👇

Timer from emailcountdowntimer.com

Ermahgerd. It’s pretty much here.

From death threats and dodging bullets to injuries and lawsuits, there’s a million ways this could’ve fallen apart - and with only hours left until kick-off, it looks like grappling’s biggest weekend in history is upon us! 🤞🔥

Both the ADCC & CJI brackets are firmly set, and BJJ’s best athletes are lined up and ready to rumble for either;

  1. That intangible yet insatiable drive for legacy and prestige - or

  2. That very tangible and very transformative Bag. Of. Money. 💰

Craig’s kept himself busy right to the final drop - personally overseeing the construction of ‘The Alley’, placing a 100k bet on himself and making just about every podcast appearance he can. He’s even found time to throw some last-minute shade at Gordon and the ADCC homies 😂

Whatever you choose to watch and however you choose to watch it - take some time and enjoy our sport’s biggest moment if you get the chance. I have a feeling this is a weekend we will all look back on in years to come as a pivotal point that changed the game as we know it (#armchairphilosopher) 🥸

We’ve got more for you to dive into further down - but here’s your quick refresher for the full competitor lists: CJI (here) & ADCC (here).

QUESTION TIME

What Keeps You Up At 2 am?

Another Olympics has passed with jiu-jitsu sidelined and watching on like a sad puppy in a pet store window.

After tolerating hours of horse dancing, power walking and ribbon twirling … and then finding out that horse long jump, solo synchronised swimming (huh!? 🤔) and poodle trimming have all previously had a turn - you can’t help but be left wondering ‘where the oss is BJJ?

However, while the games are the top tier for many sports - some in the BJJ community aren't on board with jiu-jitsu’s Olympic ambitions, making the argument that it would water it down, damage the sport and harm more athletes than it helps.

Add to that - we have no unified ruleset, no governing body and no testing for the spicy acai 🌶️ … so you can start to see where the issues lie… But come on. It’s the Olympics!

So, this week’s big question ⬇️

WHATS HAPPENING?

This Weeks Tap’s , Nap’s 🥱 & Snap’s

We hear you. Time is money 💰 - you want your BJJ news, but you’ve got sh*t to do 📝those training partners won’t tap themselves. Let’s get it 👇

1.) I KNOW WE CAN’T SHUT UP ABOUT IT 🤐:but this is our last chance to bang on about the inaugural Craig Jones Invitational before it all goes down - so we want to link you to some awesome resources so you can read up and really get buzzed for it!

Ben Coate from Grappling Insider has given a great high-level look at the key match-ups (here) & Alex from Jits Magazine has done a full deep dive on each division - previewing the favourites, contenders, dark horses and underdogs for each category (Under 80 here - and Over 80 here).

For those more interested in the ADCC side of things - both Jits Mag and GI have great previews for each and every division that you can peruse at your leisure while you’re over there 🔥

2.) IF YOU’RE WORRIED ABOUT POST ADCC / CJI DEPRESSION 😔 :then it’s probably important to think about life after this weekend - and Polaris 29 might be just the ticket 🎟️

Scheduled for September 7th, this card features the likes of Tainan Dalpra, Felipe Andrew, Cole Abate, Sam McNally & J-Rod - so there should be plenty here to help you shake that hangover and see that the future is still bright! → more here.

3.) CRAIG JONES VS JOE ROGAN IS ON! 🧨:well, maybe I’m getting ahead of myself, but there’s some online beef stewing

After Craig’s recent stint on the Joe Rogan Experience, many were quick to notice Joe’s criticisms regarding the CJI clashing with ADCC and questioning whether or not it was actually all about improving athlete pay. Well, in a subsequent podcast, Joe has hit out at the Olympics for poor athlete pay and Craig’s pounced on it 🐈

Let’s go Joe - return serve. Tell me this is a fight you wouldn’t want to watch!? → more here.

WHAT’S SO FUNNY?

The Meme Open Mat:

I tried to pass guard once, didn’t work. YOLO BOLO 👇…

There’s nothing ‘Fun’ about it?…

I think this might be my last mission Sarge…

Thank you, heart, don’t mind if I do…

You like memes huh!? (of course you do). Well, we have bucketloads 🪣 of premium, high-grade OG memes for you to share with your BJJ crew…

LET’S GET TECHNICAL

The Good Option:

This week - Jozef Chen is The Good Option. In fact, by taking the whole 20 minutes required to sit down and watch LIMI BJJ’s awesome analysis of his style and some of his key matches - you’ll probably walk away with tonnes of Good Options.

His run through the recent ADCC trials was nothing short of incredible, and now with his switch to CJI, he is undoubtedly a strong contender for the Milly.

Grab a cuppa ☕️ and notepad 📝 👇

The Not-So-Good Option:

The further you go in BJJ, the more likely it is that you’ll end up as either Team Gi or Team No-Gi. As your game develops and you find your own style you’ll find that one of these formats will probably just suit you better.

It’s just a decision you should probably make before you enter a comp - not mid-match.👇
